Women's coach is tops!

Our very own Derek Docherty won the University of Edinburgh's "Coach of the Year" for 2007-2008.    Its quite an accomplishment considering there are 65 clubs and over 100 coaches many of whom have led successful coaching campaigns.    While we have many reasons to love his coaching, the sports union committee writes:

This year’s winner however has turned his Club around into one of the strongest Clubs inScotland. An incredibly committed person to the Women’s University team, he has declined several offers of national coaching in order to commit to the Club. Having happily rearranged his own professional work schedule to fit around Club training, he frequently took days off work in order to travel to away games. Despite losing five of the starting seven girls of his squad this year, he transferred enough of his knowledge and skills to the youthful squad to finish unbeaten in Scotland and reach for the second year running the BUSA Finals, where the team finished fourth. Committed to raising the standard of theWomen's Water Polo Team, Derek Docherty is constantly on hand to motivate and inspire the Club members to improve their performances and is therefore a worthy winner of this year’s Coach of the Year award.

Congratulations and well done!
